• Has a solid strategic plan and makes sure that all their virtual team members, including the virtual webmaster, have buy-in and are aligned with the client’s mission, vision, and goals for the business.

• Stays on the virtual webmaster’s radar screen. Your virtual webmaster should hear from you every week, without having to do “check-ins.” If your business is not “there” yet, you may not be ready for a virtual webmaster.

• Clearly communicates which projects are "urgent" and which are "regular" and which are "ongoing." And most of what the client is doing will fall in the "regular" category.

• Thinks in terms of projects and bundles, and communicates these needs to their virtual webmaster as such.

• Communicates well by e-mail, telephone, and instant messaging – and know the right time to utilize each.

• Is open to feedback when appropriate and necessary.

• Knows the balance between when to drive their virtual webmaster to take on new competencies to support their business, and when to respect that their request is outside of the business their virtual webmaster is running.

• Keeps their commitments in terms of deadlines and deliverables, since they'll certainly hold the virtual webmaster accountable for theirs.

• Provides feedback and insights in a timely manner when the virtual webmaster needs the client to review a project or draft.
